Submission with recommendations for Northwest Territories Bill 45, Corrections Act. The outlined recommendations highlight specific provisions that can make way for the modernization of correctional law in the Northwest Territories. This is an opportunity for the Northwest Territories to become a leader in the human rights of prisoners by placing limits on the use of solitary and restrictive confinement. The jurisdiction can also provide exemplary living conditions and oversight mechanisms in order to a create a correctional system that best provides safety for inmates and corrections officers, while also best preparing inmates for re-integration.
