Carmen CheungOn March 14, from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, Amnesty International UBC will be holding a public conference. The conference theme will engage Amnesty International’s recently released Human Rights Agenda for Canada. Canada’s failure to uphold domestic and international rights obligations will also be discussed.

BCCLA Senior Counsel, Carmen Cheung, will be speaking at the first panel: Taking a Stand Against Torture. The panel will explore Canada’s excessive use of solitary confinement for an extended period of time; its failure to condemn torture in several countries, such as Mexico; and its refusal to sign the United Nation’s Optional Protocol.
