BCCLA Policy Director Micheal Vonn will be speaking at the University of Victoria.

Presented by the UVic Radical Law Club and the Criminal Law Club

Description of the event by presenters.

“In recent years, there have been numerous allegations of abuse by the police. In February, a report was released detailing allegations of abuse of Indigenous women and girls by the police whose job it is to protect them in Northern BC. The RCMP has had numerous complaints of sexual harassment filed against them. Marginalized communities, such as residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, have reported numerous complaints against police officers, including the increased policing that happens in their community as a result of povert”y.

Micheal Vonn, Policy Director and lawyer with the BC Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA), and Doug King, staff lawyer with Pivot Legal Society will be at UVic to chat with students about the allegations of police abuse in BC, as well as the work of their organizations.

Please join us in hearing from two prominent lawyers and the work they are doing to monitor and bring greater accountability to policing in BC.
