Vancouver – On Wednesday, November 30, 2011, the BCCLA will hold a press conference with Gloria Taylor, a British Columbia woman with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, who is asking the BC Supreme Court for choice in dying.
The BCCLA is representing Ms. Taylor in her lawsuit which challenges the laws that make it a criminal offense for physicians to assist seriously and incurably ill individuals to die with dignity.
Arguments in the case, including a detailed review of the evidence and full legal submissions, begin on Thursday, December 1 at 10 a.m. in Courtroom 44 at the BC Supreme Court. Ms. Taylor will attend court but will not be testifying.
Ms. Taylor and two other plaintiffs in the lawsuit, Lee Carter and Hollis Johnson, will enter the courthouse on December 1 at 9:00 a.m. through the Nelson Street entrance. All the plaintiffs will be available for photographs. In light of her health condition, Ms. Taylor respectfully requests that journalists refrain from seeking comment from her at that time.
