BCCLA Policy Director wins award, nominated for another

Vancouver, B.C. – Micheal Vonn, privacy expert and Policy Director with the BCCLA has won an AccolAIDS award for her work with the HIV/AIDS community on medical record privacy, anti-discrimination initiatives and legal rights. She has also recently been nominated for a YWCA Women of Distinction award. The Women of Distinction award ceremony takes place next month.

“We are incredibly proud of Micheal’s work and her dedication to privacy issues and the rights of citizens,” said Robert Holmes, President of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association. “We’re thrilled that her hard work is getting the recognition it deserves, and we are pleased to serve the communities that are seeking to recognize Micheal.”

Micheal has been on staff with the B.C. Civil Liberties Association since 2004. She was a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee previously. Prior to law, she worked in education and policy for AIDS Vancouver.

Ms. Vonn has particular expertise and is a sought-after speaker in the area of privacy and access to information. She is an Advisory Board Member of Privacy International, has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of British Columbia and is currently an Adjunct Professor at the UBC School of Library, Archival and Information Studies.
