Former B.C. Human Rights Tribunal member appointed new BCCLA Vice President

Well known Vancouver lawyer Lindsay Lyster, has been appointed as the B.C. Civil Liberties Association’s new Vice President. Ms. Lyster served as a member of the B.C. Human Rights Tribunal as an adjudicator from 2002 to 2010. She served as Policy Director of the BCCLA before her appointment to the BC Human Rights Tribunal. Before that she practiced labor, employment and public law with a major national law firm for seven years.

Ms. Lyster has appeared before all levels of courts and tribunals in B.C. and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in leading human rights and Charter cases. She was a gold medallist in law school and served as a law clerk to Chief Justice McLachlin of the Supreme Court of Canada before being called to the bar in 1993.

“We are incredibly honored to have Lindsay join our organization as our new Vice President,” noted Holmes. “She is an esteemed lawyer with an impeccable track record and a remarkable legal mind. She is well familiar with our organization given her history as one of our first policy directors. Her commitment to human rights and civil liberties issues has been exemplary. Her ability to articulate in a powerful and persuasive manner the principles that the BCCLA was founded to advocate will be an enormous assistance to the work of our organization.”

Ms. Lyster currently works as a partner in the Vancouver, B.C. law firm Moore Edgar Olson, and concentrates her practice on human rights, administrative and labour law issues. The BCCLA’s previous Vice President was Jason Gratl, who continues to serve the Association as a member of its Board of Directors.
