The BC government will start publishing active “freedom of information” requests for the purpose of “more transparency”. However, the design of this measure does more to expose requesters to scrutiny—and discourage them from making requests in the first place—than it does hold public bodies accountable. The BC Civil Liberties Association, together with BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association, wrote a joint complaint to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of British Columbia.
