Policy Complaint Concerning RCMP Checkpoint and Exclusion Zone on Wet’suwet’en Territory

The BCCLA, the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs, and the Union of BC Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) are calling on the Chairperson of the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission (CRCC) for the RCMP to initiate a policy complaint and public interest investigation regarding the improper and unlawful actions of the RCMP in implementing and enforcing a checkpoint and exclusion zone on Morice West Forest Service Road in Wet’suwet’en territory. This complaint and call for investigation is also supported by West Coast Environmental Law and Pivot Legal Society.

Citing significant public interest in the matter, the Chairperson of the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission (CRCC) for the RCMP, Michelaine Lahaie, issued a response to the call for an investigation regarding the improper and unlawful actions of the RCMP in in Wet’suwet’en territory.
