Correction on HST sign removal – Maple Ridge supports expressive rights

The BCCLA is issuing a correction to an earlier release in which we reported on complaints from a number of municipalities that HST campaign signs were being removed by city officials. It appears that some sign removals were mistakenly described as occurring in Maple Ridge, a district that in fact supports HST signage. The sign removals mistakenly ascribed to Maple Ridge, may have in fact taken place in neighbouring Pitt Meadows, where the Mayor, Don MacLean, has publicly announced that the City is removing HST signs.

We apologize for this error and note that Ernie Daykin, the Mayor of Maple Ridge, supports the placement of HST campaign signs on public property as important aspect of citizens’ free speech rights.
