BCCLA announces province-wide death in custody lectures

The B.C. Civil Liberties Association has set dates and locations for three province-wide speaking events to launch their report on Deaths in Custody.

Professor David MacAlister will be speaking with BCCLA Executive Director David Eby on the report, which found that B.C. has Canada’s highest provincial rates of in-custody and police-involved deaths, and which takes lessons from other jurisdictions on how B.C. should structure our new Independent Investigation Office.

Kamloops November 9, noon to 1:00 p.m. – Hotel 540 (540 Victoria Street) – Event held in partnership with Kamloops Elizabeth Fry Society
Prince George November 10, noon to 1:00 p.m. – Prince George Civic Centre (808 Civics Plaza)
Vancouver November 16, noon to 1:00 p.m. – SFU Harbour Centre (555 Hastings Street) Room 2270 – Event held in partnership with Simon Fraser University Public Research Interest Group (SFPIRG)

The lecture at the University of Victoria Law School was at capacity, and attendees are recommended to arrive in advance of the scheduled start time to assure themselves seating.

The BCCLA’s death in custody report and lecture series is sponsored by the Law Foundation of British Columbia.
