The BC Civil Liberties Association, Canada’s oldest organization devoted to the defense of free speech, is pleased to announce today a unique and exciting combination of donations from artists and collectors and generous support from some of Canada’s leading art galleries. Donated art, which includes a collection of rare Picasso etchings (from the 1934 Limited Editions Club edition of Aristophane’s Lysistrata) a new oil painting by internationally renowned artist Richard Attila Lukacs, and a collage by well known East Coast artist Jessica Stockholder will all be sold this fall to generate financial support for the civil liberties work of the BCCLA.

“The BCCLA has spent decades defending artists’ freedom of expression, and we are pleased to receive this support from the arts community” said Association Development Officer Tom Sandborn. Because collectors, galleries and artists have been so generous with their art and services, the BC Civil Liberties Association will be better equipped this year to continue our vital defense of artistic freedom and the civil liberties that make democracy possible.
