Panel Members:

Jennifer Charlesworth, PhD has worked in government, non-profit, philanthropic, university and private sectors and believes that, in exploring the spaces between these sectors and interests, we will collectively discover new ways to work together and find solutions to the tough social challenges. She has co-authored several books including All Together Now – Creating the Social Capital Mosaic and Emergent Practice Planning.
David Eby, BA Hons, LLB, Executive Director of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association and an adjunct Professor of Law at UBC, focuses his work on reforming public policy that disproportionately impacts poor, mentally ill, homeless, addicted and otherwise marginalized people. His reports and advocacy have contributed to major shifts in government policy related to homelessness and police accountability, including an end to the system of police self-investigation in B.C., the end of invasive sexual testing of young offenders by Corrections B.C., and the purchase by the Province of B.C. of hundreds of units of privately owned low-income rental housing in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Nicholas Simons MLA, is a former child protection social worker and served for ten years as the director of the Sechelt First Nation Health and Social Development department. He has served as the Opposition Critic for many Ministries including Children and Families. He is currently the Critic for Community Living BC. His independent investigation into the death of a Vancouver Island toddler in government care eventually led to the Hughes Report, a comprehensive review of British Columbia’s child welfare system.
