Appeal of police officer’s conviction for shooting of Bill Gillespie to be heard this morning

Vancouver – This morning the Court of Appeal will hear the appeal of the conviction of RCMP Constable David Pompeo for aggravated assault in the shooting of unarmed Bill Gillespie in Chemainus, BC in September 2009. Constable Pompeo was convicted and sentenced last year to two-years’ probation and granted an exemption from a firearms ban. Constable Pompeo has yet to be disciplined by the RCMP for his unlawful conduct and remains on the RCMP’s payroll.
