Civil liberties are the bedrock of democratic society; the law is the defender and enhancer of these freedoms. This course offers a comprehensive overview of how the institution of law and different areas of law protect liberty. This course will feature panels on subjects such as independence of the bench and bar, Charter challenges, complaints against the police, the right to counsel and defamation/freedom of expression.
